Our laboratory conducts routine clinical examinations aiming for better diagnosis and testing. To this end, we reuse residual specimens from patients who have completed clinical examinations to control testing accuracy, examine the fundamentals of measurement methods, and provide education and training for clinical laboratory technologists and students. The use of residual specimens complies with the Opinion of the Japanese Society of Laboratory Medicine about using residual specimens (existing specimens) for services, education, and training. We will follow our Ethics Committee rules when using specimens for research.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Specimens available for use:

Remaining specimens kept for a designated time after being used in our clinical laboratory testing for blood and urine, etc.

Method of use:

After obtaining patient specimens, we will delete and render their personal information anonymous. Clear identification of the responsible party will be maintained during the management and use of the information.

Ethical considerations

  • We will use the residual drug specimens scheduled for disposal after clinical laboratory testing. As a result, the patient’s life or health will not be directly affected by providing the specimen.
  • We guarantee that the personal details of patients who cooperate with us will be made anonymous and never disclosed.
  • The findings may be shared at conferences or published in scholarly articles to aid in developing medicine, however, even in such cases, all personally identifiable information will be removed.
  • Rest assured that your medical treatment will remain unchanged regardless of your consent or refusal, with no negative consequences if you choose not to cooperate.

If you do not agree, kindly inform the staff at the blood collection room during blood collection.
