Outpatient Visit for Consultation

Print this page

Due to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s policy of assigning tasks of hospitals and clinics, Japanese Red Cross Narita Hospital functions as a specialized medical institution. We require referrals from other medical institutions (primary care doctors’, neighboring hospitals or clinics) for consultations. Thus first-visit patients should bring a letter of referral.

Depending on clinical departments and medical conditions, you may be able to seek consultation without a referral letter, but you will be requested to bear a fee of ¥7,700 (including tax) as a “Fee for Treatment of Patients’Choice (Sentei Ryoyo-hi)” in addition to the medical fee. Please note that we will prioritize patients with referral letters to cooperate with medical institutions with our local community. In this respect, you may wait for a long period of time for consultation.

We kindly ask for your understanding of the system.

What is “Sentei Ryoyo-hi (Fee for Treatment of Patients’ Choice )”?

To coordinate the allocation of functions and activities among medical institutions, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has instituted a system under which a patient is requires to pay a fee fixed by each institution, in addition to the fee for the first visit, 1) if the patient is visiting a hospital with 200 or more beds without being referred by other authorized medical insurance institution, and 2) if the patient is visiting a hospital at night (5:00 pm – 8:30 am), on weekends, or on holidays.

1) If it is your first visit to our hospital, and you do not have a referral letter ( a patient referral document) from other authorized insurance medical institution, or 2) if you are visiting our hospital between 5:00 pm – 8:30 am, on weekends, or on holidays, you will therefore be asked to pay a “Fee for Treatment of Patients’ Choice” in addition to the first visit fee.
